0 Sessions: Senate Dems, WH Broke The Budget Process And Now Were Paying The PriceJULY 28, WASHINGTON—On the Senate floor this afternoon, Sen. Sessions addressed the competing debt limit proposals offered by Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Reid. Sessions noted that “if the year had begun with a serious budget proposal from the president, we wouldn’t be in this mess right now…Senate Democrats, meanwhile, have refused to pass a budget in 820 days.”

While Speaker Boehner’s proposal cuts spending and raises the debt limit by roughly $1 trillion each, the debt proposal offered by Sen. Reid uses accounting tricks to hike the debt limit by $3 trillion while only cutting spending by a third as much. If enacted, Sen. Reid’s proposal would represent the largest debt limit increase in U.S. history.
