The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion
Product Description

Why can’t our political leaders work together as threats loom and problems mount? Why do people so readily assume the worst about the motives of their fellow citizens? In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding.

His starting point is moral intuition—the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right. He blends his own research findings with those of anthropologists, historians, and other psychologists to draw a map of the moral domain, and he explains why conservatives can navigate that map more skillfully than can liberals. He then examines the origins of morality, overturning the view that evolution made us fundamentally selfish creatures. But rather than arguing that we are innately altruistic, he makes a more subtle claim—that we are fundamentally groupish. It is our groupishness, he explains, that leads to our greatest joys, our religious divisions, and our political affiliations. In a stunning final chapter on ideology and civility, Haidt shows what each side is right about, and why we need the insights of liberals, conservatives, and libertarians to flourish as a nation.

What is the effect of the internet on politics ?

Posted on April 27th, 2012 by admin in politics | 4 Comments »

I think this would be an interesting topic for responses
How do you think the internet affected politics in this past decade ? I’ve been thinking about this question for weeks now, and I think the internet has a major effect on today’s politics. I’m wondering if what I’m saying is true.

I’m trying to write an article on this, but I’m going to need some examples on how the internet really affected politics. Anyone have a say on this ?
Sorry for the grammatical errors. I’m in a rush.

It has helped to level the playing field for candidates without resources and to allow candidates to raise money from smaller donors on a national scale. It has also made it easier for political campaigns to astroturf candidates by paying workers to pretend they are just average citizens.

What would happen if someone ends up telling the politics and the oil companies about Jesus Christ?

What would happen if someone ends up telling the politics and the oil companies about Jesus Christ and the way how Jesus wants us to live and that person telling the politics and the oil companies about the consequences of what would happen if they don’t start living their lives the way Jesus Christ wants them to and the rewards they could end up getting if they DO start living their lives for Christ?

Also what would happen if this person told the politics and the oil companies that God loves them very much and His love is a trillion times greater than all of the love that exists in this world?

they would probably be crucified on a oil rig

We're with Nobody: Two Insiders Reveal the Dark Side of American Politics
Product Description

In politics, finding the dirt is a multimillion-dollar business.

It’s called opposition research—“oppo” to insiders. Few Americans are aware of its existence, yet oppo has become an integral part of the campaign process, hastening the implosion of countless office-seekers around the country.

For nearly two decades, former journalists Alan Huffman and Michael Rejebian have been uncovering the buried truths about political candidates, from presidential appointees all the way down to local school-board hopefuls. We’re with Nobody is the eye-opening account of their life as opposition researchers—a remarkable adventure across the American political landscape and through the often seamy underbelly of U.S. politics. From doing battle with reluctant, sometimes purposefully misleading bureaucrats to arriving in an unmarked police car for a clandestine meeting on the New Jersey waterfront, We’re with Nobody offers readers a revealing slice of national and political life: a close-up look at today’s political process, the fallible men and women we often choose to represent us and the little-understood industry of trying to bring candidates’ weaknesses to light.

I have to make a political cartoon that highlights the contemporary relationship between government and politics. Any ideas or suggestions of an area or topic I should hit on?

Personal gain seems to be the new fashion.

Politics: Is Obama ever going to get serious about raising tàxes for the rich to reduce the deficit?

Posted on February 12th, 2012 by admin in politics | 15 Comments »

Errg this filter, need to change my question again to get it to post and insert "politics" again. Anyways…

In his speech tonight he talked about how the rich need to pay more taxes. Not only did he not increase taxes for the rich but he allowed the GOP to extend Bush’s tax cuts for the rich. He should simply refuse to sign any budget that doesn’t include a major tax increase on the rich, even if it means shutting down certain portions of the Federal Government for weeks on end.

It’s not all up to him, congress refuses to work with him. He should have let the Bush tax cuts expire.
